Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU) is located in Xi’an, a historic city (world-famous for the Terracotta Army) in the heart of the mainland of the People’s Republic of China. Its main campus is situated in the Electronic Industry Park of Xi’an National Hi-Tech Development Zone and its new campus lies in Huxian County, about 12 miles from the city center of Xi’an.

Founded in 1951, XSYU has developed into Northwest China’s only institution of higher learning oriented to petroleum and petro-chemical engineering. Currently, XSYU has more than 15,000 on-campus undergraduates and postgraduates, over 10,000 continuing education students, and hundreds of international students. Since its founding, XSYU has turned out more than 70,000 students.

XSYU consists of 12 schools and 3 departments, offering 48 bachelor’s degree programs (5 of which are famous brands accredited by Shaanxi Province), 30 master’s degree programs, and 1 doctoral program. XSYU boasts 7 province/ministry-accredited key disciplines, 11 province/ministry-accredited key labs (research centers), 5 province-accredited quality courses, and 1 province-accredited model center for laboratory teaching.

XSYU has a staff of over 1500, of whom more than 900 are full-time teachers, including over 430 professors and associate professors, over 500 mater’s or doctor’s degree holders, over 280 master advisors or doctoral supervisors, 14 state-accredited or province-accredited experts with outstanding contribution, 24 scientific or educational experts enjoying government’s special bonus, 13 state-accredited or province-accredited excellent teachers, 5 province/ministry-accredited academic leaders or backbone teachers, and 89 part-time teachers from all over China and abroad.

XSYU covers an area of 2,030 Chinese mu (approximately 135 hectares). It possesses RMB￥870 million worth of fixed assets and RMB￥190 million worth of teaching equipment, ranking among Shaanxi’s top universities in terms of per-student investment in teaching equipment.

XSYU is also strong in scientific research. Since the year 2000, it has undertaken over 100 high-level research projects, including projects of the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Social Science Foundation of China.?

XSYU is active in international collaboration. It has established cooperative relations with 23 universities or research institutes in the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, and other countries. In particular, under the Agreement for the “1＋2＋1 Sino-US Talent Education Program”, it has been training undergraduate and postgraduate students in collaboration with 10 US universities.
